Introducing Our New Enrollment Director

Earlier this Spring, we were fortunate to have an opening in our staff for a new Enrollment Director. Tiffany Rubin accepted our offer to step into this role and bring a level of professionalism and skill to the position we have never had before. She has a long history with the Asian Arts Center Taekwondo School, and her four daughters are enrolled in our children’s and teen programs. Lillian, one of Tiffany’s daughters, is a Black Belt and has been enrolled in our after school program for several years. Please stop in and get to know Tiffany, and see why we are so excited to have such a positive and capable person at the front desk!

Staying Fit with our New Adult Boxing and Kickboxing!

Its hard to put into words the importance of a good work out a couple of times a week.  As most people know there are so many benefits such as  maintaining a healthy body weight,  improving cardiovascular health, or just feeling great after a challenging work out. We can help you reap all of those benefits in a fun way. With our new adult fitness program you can get great results with just a couple of work outs a week.  From the core strengthening boxing and kickboxing, to the high interval training that is incorporated into the class the benefits are too numerous to count. After taking these classes for a few weeks I can honestly say I feel stronger, more fit, and love the feeling I get after pushing through a tough work out. Come check out our classes at  http://boxdayton.com/

Congratulations to our Black Belts!

A big congratulations to our new black belts!  Although the ceremony was snowed out last week, our students were able to test on Thursday night in class.  Our black belt have worked hard for many years to achieve this success. Through their training, we believe that they hold our mission as some of the goals they have reached as they have strengthened their body and mind, learned practical self defense, and  build their character over the years they have been with us. The testing students looked strong and confident which is ultimately the goal once they reach this level.  As these students have now reach their black belt, they will continue to train and work hard not just to become a better martial arts athlete, but to continue to embody the mission of the Asian Arts Center.

Adult Boxing and Kickboxing Fitness Classes are Underway

The Asian Arts Center is happy to announce that the adult boxing and kickboxing fitness classes are underway! High intensity, fat burning, energizing, and fun are just a few ways to describe the newest adult fitness classes at the Asian Arts Center. The classes have started at our Centerville location and are quite the workout! With alternating exercises of bag work, calisthenics, and high intensity interval  training these classes have it all. Mixing it up with all the different aspects of the work out helps you to get the best results while keeping you on your toes.  These classes challenge you to push yourself and get the most out of your workouts. Yet even at such a  high intensity, the energy breathing throughout the class keeps you from feeling fatigued and that energy is sustained throughout the day. Come experiences this awesome fitness class for yourself! For more information check out the programs section of our website or just give us a call!

Sparring Tournament was a Success!

On Saturday November 16, 2013, the Asian Arts Center hosted a sparring tournament for the students with in our school.  The idea of the tournament was for the students to put to use some of their sparring skills, demonstrate their forms, and understand the process of  Takewondo tournaments. The kids were broken up by age and belt rank resulting in two groups. From there the students began demonstrating their forms for the judges. Awards were given for the strongest forms in each group, and Mr. Matt gave insight as to what would happen in a real tournament in the form demonstration process.  The second portion was sparring, and each sparring pair went  for at least  two rounds. Everyone received a trophy, but the strongest participants received a first place trophies.  The day was an over all success and gave the students a little taste of the competitions that are out there.  The students who were there have already been asking for another tournament, and we plan to do one in February!  Strengthening body and mind, teaching practical self defense, and building character is our mission at the Asian Arts Center and we believe events like this help us continue to carry out our mission to the fullest

Congratulations to Our New Instructors

Congratulations to our new orange belt instructors Jackie Tando- Steele and Molly Nagle. These girls have been assisting with classes at our Centerville location this fall. Jackie and Molly were hired on to the Asian Arts Center staff after a series of personality tests and specific qualifications to find the best possible instructors for our school. Both Jackie and Molly were a match in meeting those qualifications , and they have been learning how to instruct with our unique teaching style as well as training in Taekwondo. They have come a long way in just a few short months and are on the path to becoming great teachers as well as strong martial artists. As these girls continue to train,  they are part of the Asian Arts Center’s mission to  find the best people to teach in our unique system. They remind us that we use our unique teaching style of teaching Taekwondo as a tool to help transform lives in more ways then just kicks and punches. With a mission of strengthening body and mind, teaching practical self defense, and building character; the Asian Arts Center is proud to have these girls as members of our teaching staff to help us continue to achieve the goals we have set with our mission here at the Asian Arts Center.

Building Character

Stronger athletes, better focus, and increased confidence are just a few  goals that are a part of  our overall mission to strengthen body and mind, teach practical self-defense, and build character. When teaching Taekwondo at the Asian Arts Center, we not only want the students to become better athletes, but we want them to become well rounded people too.  Our goal is to help students develop character traits  through the use of actionable definition.  Words like integrity and respect are ones that we use to describe someone’s character. In order for the students to develop these character traits, there must be meaning behind the words we teach. For example when we say to the student , “good eye contact”, or “he/she answered back yes sir/ma’am, now I feel respected.” We then instruct the students to go home and show that same respect to their parents. The students can now make the connection between the actions of eye contact and answering back as ways to show respect. We do not have to go into a detailed explanation of the word but rather define the word with actions they understand. Giving actions to these words helps to better our students’ character and  is just another reason why we see such a positive change in our students here at the Asian Arts Center.
