Sparring Tournament was a Success!

On Saturday November 16, 2013, the Asian Arts Center hosted a sparring tournament for the students with in our school.  The idea of the tournament was for the students to put to use some of their sparring skills, demonstrate their forms, and understand the process of  Takewondo tournaments. The kids were broken up by age and belt rank resulting in two groups. From there the students began demonstrating their forms for the judges. Awards were given for the strongest forms in each group, and Mr. Matt gave insight as to what would happen in a real tournament in the form demonstration process.  The second portion was sparring, and each sparring pair went  for at least  two rounds. Everyone received a trophy, but the strongest participants received a first place trophies.  The day was an over all success and gave the students a little taste of the competitions that are out there.  The students who were there have already been asking for another tournament, and we plan to do one in February!  Strengthening body and mind, teaching practical self defense, and building character is our mission at the Asian Arts Center and we believe events like this help us continue to carry out our mission to the fullest
